The Work Behind the Work
This is why we show up — one human at a time.
The real work doesn’t happen online.
It doesn’t happen at conferences, on collaboration calls, or on social media. Those things matter — but they’re not where the magic lives.
The magic lives in a humble little office. One human. One conversation. One session at a time.
There would be nothing meaningful to share or present about, if it weren’t for the real, honest, hard, and often humbling work that happens on a day-to-day basis.
It’s so much more than building a business or creating an online presence.
The work behind Affy Health only exists because of the day-to-day work of being a dietitian.
The message exists because of the work. And once again, I was reminded why this work is important.
A Moment That Stopped Me
I just finished a consult with a man who is six years sober.
Currently living in a transitional home and wanting to learn how to eat better to improve his health and well-being. He doesn’t have much — resources are limited, and access to cooking is even more limited.
And with all these barriers, one of the first things he told me was:
“My life is so great. There is so much to enjoy. It is wonderful to be free.”
Mic drop. 🎤
Those words silenced me — for a moment.
This man is navigating sobriety, weight gain, diabetes, a shared living space, a tight budget — and leading with so much joy and gratitude.
Real Food for Real Life
We talked about real food options for real life. No perfection required. Just the next right step. Things that he could say, “I can start practicing that.”
No expensive superfoods. No fancy equipment. No health halos that make someone feel like healthy eating is out of reach. Just honest, practical, doable steps — designed around his actual life.
He left feeling empowered. I left humbled.
Remember Your Why
And I’m reminded that the message shared online — or on stage — is only meaningful because of the day-to-day work that happens offline.
If you ever feel unclear about the work you are doing, remember your why, and I promise you’ll find your way.
